Internship Research Overview
PRE-WORK BEFORE RESEARCH BEGINS
Declaration of Interest- due October 6th. This will be an informal piece of writing in which you propose an area that you would like to research within your internship. You will also need to meet with your mentor to discuss your specific research interests before this is due. You will record this conversation.
Interview Mentor- due October 6th. You will record the conversation with your mentor, and this will help you focus on your research plan and will be turned in with your Declaration of Interest to either Tina or Matt depending on who does your site visit.
Research Proposal- due October 20. This will be a more formal proposal that will explain how you plan on approaching the research. Once this is approved by your mentor and Tina or Matt, you can begin your research at internship!
Data Collection- After your internship site visit, you should be clear on your data collection. You should have all of your data collected by November 30.

PARTS OF THE PAPER (all of these will have a rough draft of the section due for each section and then the final paper will be due January 12, 2018)
Introduction (approximately 1 page)- this is when you draw the reader into the subject of your research by broadly introducing your topic and creating awareness of its relevance in the wider world. You will write your open-ended essential question at the end of this section.
Background (approximately 2-3 pages)- this provides context for your reader on the research. What background information do they need to know to understand your research? You will also provide information about your internship site here. We will also go to CSUSM to use their library. You are expected to use at least three outside sources.
Methods (approximately 1 page)- this will give an overview of how you conducted your onsite research at your internship site. Interview? Case Study? Survey? Focus Group? An experiment?
Analysis/Discussion (approximately 3-4 pages)- For this section of the paper, you will be answering your essential question. This should be a balance of outside sources, your raw data (from internship) and your own personal commentary and interpretation of the evidence you are providing.
Action Plan and Conclusion (approximately 1-2 pages)- in this section you will address any questions that still remain for you. You will also give recommendations to your internship that are based out of your research.
